How the finder works.

BathingWaterFinder imports the latest annual EEA bathing-water layer at deployment time and serves a local copy of the fields needed for search, comparison and site pages.

Official quality classes

The EEA layer uses the classes Excellent, Good, Sufficient, Poor and Not classified. We preserve that class instead of creating a competing score. The annual classification is a long-term assessment based on the current bathing season and the preceding three seasons where the required data are available; it is not a same-day measurement.

Historical trend

Where available, site pages show annual classifications from 2015 through 2025. Missing or not-classified years are shown as such; we do not interpolate them.

Distance

“Near me” uses a straight-line Haversine distance between your browser location and the published bathing-water coordinates. It is not road distance or travel time. Your coordinates are used in the browser and are not intentionally sent to our server by the finder.

Rankings

Rankings prioritize the official class first. Any secondary ordering, such as distance or consistency, is labeled separately and does not modify the EEA class.

Data freshness

The production build records the dataset season and the time it was imported. Annual EEA data can lag current conditions by design. For present-day advisories, follow the national profile or local authority.
